Why We Do This
Recently I've felt like I needed to get back out in the community more, build relationships, and as Paul tells Timothy, "do the work of an evangelist." So I sort of set a goal to try to go to lunch or breakfast with an unchurched person, lost person, or new guest of our church at least once a week.
Today I went to lunch with a real 'seeker' and after he drilled me with some tough questions, he stepped across the line of faith and received Christ into his heart!! I was so blessed to see the light come on in his eyes when he understood grace for the first time!!
As I shared a few weeks ago, this summer I have done 2 funerals -- one for a 33 year old and the other for a 31-year old high school classmate of mine. Two vivid reminders that all of us are just a moment away from spending eternity somewhere. Two vivid reminders of why our work in the church/church planting is so important.
Today reminded me in a first-hand kind of way, why we started RBCC almost four years ago ... to see people experience Christ and begin a personal relationship with Him.
It's awesome ... yes it can be tough and frustrating and discouraging at times ... but it is worth it ... and just think all heaven throws a BIG OLE PARTY after one lost soul who repents!
God bless all of your efforts to share Jesus in your community!!
P.S. -- If you haven't read Andy Stanley's book How Good is Good Enough ... I'd highly recommend it. It was instrumental in helping me explain salvation today to my friend.
We also give it away at Rock Bridge to all our first-time guests. It's an excellent witnessing tool and an excellent way to help people understand that only forgiven people go to heaven!!
