Tough weekend ... worship God!
This weekend was one of the toughest of my life. I got a call around 10:45 Saturday night that one of our church members, a 33-year old new Father, was found dead at his home. Sunday would have been his first father's day. We spent several hours with the family into the wee hours of Sunday morning.
This guy and I played football together in high school, and he got saved a few years ago, starting coming to Rock Bridge, and eventually got most of his family back into church after a 20+ year absence!
So Sunday was a tough day for me and for many people in our church and community. But it was one of the most powerful WORSHIP services of my life!! Sometimes it is hard to worship God when you don't understand why things happen, but we must worship Him regardless and true worship has a way of reminding us that God is still on the throne, with a perspective we don't have.
We called an audible after the message and had a special time of prayer for the family and closed in another powerful worship song by my friend from the land down under, Phil Baquie, called "God of Mercy."
Lessons learned:
1) How much more difficult would this weekend have been had this guy not found Christ and his family not found a church? How many people out there still need Jesus and need aggressive churches to reach out to them?
2) We were made to worship and thus need it!! If we don't worship God, we'll worship something worthless. Sometimes just real authentic worship is needed and unchurched folks are hungry for the real deal!! I just want to thank our worship pastor, Greg, for preparing and leading an awesome service that pointed us to God!!
