Opportunistic Evangelism
Been reading in Acts lately ... WOW!! I think all pastors/planters envision and pray to be an "Acts" Church. Those guys were on fire for Christ and fueled by the Spirit.
One thing I've noticed is how they waited and prayed and then responded to what God did. They were what I would call "opportunistic" in their approach. They didn't try to manufacture or coerce they simply walked faithfully and courageously through the doors that God opened for them.
For example, they spend 10 days praying after Jesus ascended into heaven and then BAM! the Spirit came. Peter preached an awesome sermon in response to the confused crowd who thought the believers were drunk. Peter even showed his knowledge of his culture when explained that they had not been drinking since it was only the "third hour of the day" (Acts 2:15). Then when the people asked what to do, he told them to repent and be baptized.
In Acts 3 Peter & John were on their way to pray, when the opportunity to heal the lame man appeared. Again, they seized the moment and brought glory to God!
Lesson learned for an impatient sailor like me: wait on God, pray for Him to move ... be alert and simply respond to what He does.
