Why Blog?

Being new to the world of blogging, I've struggled with finding a purpose for it. Initially, my main goal was simply to share thoughts and ideas and mistakes in the realm of church planting and leading a church. Then I began to feel like I am not qualified to pontificate because there are plenty of better advisors and more experienced and more successful planters/pastors/leaders out there. So my posts of late have been seldom.

Then 2 things happened.
First, I was leading an introductory small group for people in our church who have yet to connect in a home group when a lady asked me a question.
She said (I'm paraphrasing), "In a church the size of Rock Bridge, how do you as pastor know everyone and stay connected with them?"
I of course gave the answer that it is impossible for me to know everyone and stay in touch with them and then gave a great plug for small groups and the role they play in the church.
But as I thought about her question and my answer, I was not satisfied. Is there a way to stay 'connected' and in touch with people in a church >250+ people?

Second, I read a post by Perry Noble (Click here to read it) that was awesome. Perry shared how blogging had helped him stay in touch with the people of NewSpring by sharing vision, prayer requests, and basically his heart.

So after those 2 things, my whole view of blogging has changed. Only about 3 people at RBCC even know I have a blog. But from now on I'm primarily going to blog to connect more with the awesome people of Rock Bridge and the people who want to know more about us and the crazy ex-Sailor turned pastor.
